Dreaming big dreams

This weekend was a little escape. We went up to a wedding in Wisconsin for my manager at work. I loved being with you and showing you off to my colleagues. Everyone rightly thought you were the nicest, most handomest, wonderfulest guy there aside from the groom.

I loved getting away. It got us dreaming a little. The wedding was on their farm, which they own and manage, and live on during the weekends. Even though it was aspirational, I loved hearing you say that you’d love to do something like that. Because I would too, and it’s fun to share those kinds of ideas. I mean sure, we have to have a whole financial planning discussion at some point. But right now this is all we need to be doing. Talking about what ifs, sharing ideas and dreams, holding hands and just saying stuff. We’re both generally serious about planning life and being responsible, so I know we’ll be fine – that’s why I give us free licesnse to talk about farms all we want!

Right now you are showing me listings of properties around the area. I love that you get curious about the details and look into everything – your mind says "if there’s an angle here for us let me find it." And that makes me so confident in our life together. Plus you just like exploring options. And to me that is fun. It keeps th is whole other perspective alive that I can be exposed to at any time. You make an adventurous and thought provoking partner – which is important for someone like me!

I’m not at all worried about us balancing our various priorities in terms of our budget. Yes, we are going to have differences. But we are both committed to doing what’s best for our family first and foremost, and if we keep that in mind we will be able to come to compromises and respect each others’ perspectives. I know that we’ll always keep an open mind when exploring what’s worth it and what’s not in our budget – especially open to learning more about what the other person is saying.

I’m excited to build and open, honest, marriage where we both make decisions together and feel included and equal. I love you more than anything and I know you feel the same way – so we have the main ingredient already there.

You have what doctors call…

a lack of snuggling.

this is what you said to me this morning when i couldn’t remember brushing my teeth, though i could taste the toothpaste. you then went on to list symptoms… depression, un-snuggled-ness…

yes. i am rubbing off on you!

It’s really amazing… my brother wrote me an email.

Finally he wrote to me! Well, I wrote to him saying dude, i have called and texted… just get in touch!!

He wrote me a lot. All about what’s going on in his life, and asked me a whole bunch of questions about mine, and the wedding. Mostly the wedding. I am so touched I am tearing up! He really is a thoughtful and caring person, underneath there. And very perceptive.

He loves your sister. He wrote as much about her as about us! Basically what a sweet person she is, and that she roped him into a volunteer event (which I didn’t know about?). Anyway, we are lucky to have these siblings with us in our married life!

I’ve been registering for stuff. It’s so crazy to think that all of my thoughtfulness is so that we can have a family sometime soon and that we won’t be exposed to as many bad things! People have already started getting things. It’s a weird thing, really. You can even see who bought what. How odd! It’s a very formal gift-giving process that feels a little silly. BUT, I did register for some open-ended items like “any mortar and pestle” or “any fun dish cloths.” So let’s see what happens!

I am trying to be responsible and achieve the balance between getting new things that I think we need or could use, not adding stuff where I think we’d prefer cash, and also keeping in mind what we can get used. It’s hard balance it all, between being green and healthy and also wanting to enjoy getting things for your home right away!

Also, this address-gathering thing is really getting on my nerves! People, just send us your damn address already. RIGHT?!

big heart

you have the biggest heart. we were talking on the phone and you put me on hold to talk to a homeless man who, as you said, broke your heart to see. i think you’re absolutely incredible and i’m lucky to be with someone as warm and caring as you!

happy domestic life :)

last night, you and i snuggled up in bed for nearly 2 hours for no reason. we were cracking up the whole time. i kept trying to roll you over, and then a harmonica materialized. it was so silly and fun, and so situational that it’s hard to explain to anyone else. i loved it. so so so happy.

later, we made fried bananas and ice cream. you walked down the hall from the ktichen and i started tearing up realizing that this is MY man, the one that i get to see walking down the hall in our house for the rest of my life. i am so happy and lucky!!

right now you are asleep next to me. you keep waking up and saying silly things, and every time you stir i jump on top of you. i am eating ice cream… yes, i finished the dulce de leche and am on to the creme brulee. seriously, pre-wedding diet has gone to shit. i really should start again. tomorrow.

alright, i’m going to post this so i can run my hands through your hair, you sleepy bear!

Hello there. Tonght Anne and Lindsay came over to help with invitations. It was actually really fun to just kick back and make it a social event.

Everyone loves our invitations, which makes all this work so worth it! I’m glad that people are noticing the calligraphy, too – Anne even noticed the spacing of the zip codes 🙂 I showed Anne the dresses you have picked out for me and she was SUPER impressed. I still of course have to wear that teeny one, which I would love to – and I’m positive after reading this, you will be reminded it exists and create an occasion for me to wear it!

My mom and I had lunch today at PF Chang’s (love those lettuce wraps) for our mother-daughter meet-up to give me another installment of the bottom drawer. This time was from France – Provence and Paris. Such beautiful things. I can’t wait to travel abroad with you and explore. You were a perfect companion when we went to Mackinaw, so I can only imagine what a team we will be covering new countries!

Just thinking of you, handsome. You know you are my favorite thing in the world!

Our proposal!

I was on the el yesterday going over to your place and I was thinking about our proposal. When I thought about you looking up at me saying "you are the love of my life", I started tearing up. On the el! What a magical moment.
